On October 16, 2004, a 17-year-old player by the name of Lionel Messi made his league debut for Barcelona, entering the game as a substitute against Espanyol. Today, Messi is considered one of the best soccer players of all time, along with Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele, and fellow Argentinian Diego Maradona. He holds and is tied for records such as most FIFA Ballons D’or, most goals in a calendar year, most goals in a club season, and more. He has helped lead Barcelona to an incredible nine La Liga championships and four Champions league titles since his debut.
